BCC Requirements
BCC Program Dogs
Dogs are temperament tested before entering the program
SDiT will be raised and trained by volunteer and trainers before being placed with a client
Our working dogs are spayed/ neutered and up to date on vaccinations
Any dog that requires mobility tasks will have x-rays done on their hips and elbows
Dogs are not placed with a client until the dog is 1.5 - 2 years of age
SDiT has to pass several evaluations
Owner Training Program
Dog must be between 2 months and 3 years of age
Dog must be spayed / neutered by 2 years of age
Dog must be up to date on vaccinations
Owner must obtain a reference letter from your vet stating the dog is in good health
If mobility tasks are needed, x-rays will need to be performed on their hips and elbows
Your dog must have completed at least 2 levels of obedience classes at a training school of your choice, as well as have passed the Canine Good Citizens testing
Obtain a reference letter from your obedience trainer stating your dog would be a good assistance dog
The dog needs to be able to demonstrate the ability to perform at least 1 assistance skill
Your dog must be confident and well behaved in public situations and well socialized
Your dog needs to be the only dog in the home OR it needs to demonstrate that the other dogs will not interfere with its tasks
